On Tuesday, 3rd November, the History Society – City Walk Club enjoyed The Dark Side of Spitalfields.
Following on from our successful “The Bloody History of Smithfields Walk”, Freeman Lianne, a qualified City Guide, led us on an explorationn of the area where the police once feared to tread.
Following in the footsteps of the victims of the Whitechapel murderer, we heard their stories, saw where they lived, and experienced the Victorian London they would have known. Along the way we heard tales of mass graves, ghostly goings on and body snatchers. All in the shadow of the Devil’s Architect’s Church.
We finished the eveing with a convivial chat and a warm up in the Ten Bells pub.
