The group, led by Past Master and Chair of the History Society, Ed Parker enjoyed the lecture by one of our preeminent historians, Max Hastings, as he revealed the heroism, horror, melodrama and pathos of the final weeks of the Second World War.
In March 1945, British troops crossed the Rhine in Montgomery’s Operation Plunder, witnessed by Winston Churchill. The beginning of the end of the greatest and most terrible war in history had begun. Max Hastings brought that story to life, with a cast of British, Americans and Germans distinguishing themselves through heroic deeds and the basest crimes.
